Creating a Schedule

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

~Aristotle

Our habits, by their very repetition, define who and what we are. Our daily habits provide the strongest glimpse into what we value the most, as they reveal what we spend the most time doing and focusing our attention on.

The best way, then, to dedicate ourselves to our creative vision, is to schedule time each and every day - or at least most days - to practice our craft.

At the beginning of each week, take a look at your projected schedule. Where do you see blocks where you can schedule time to practice your art? One hour? Two hours? Five hours? Planning in advance helps you to operate more efficiently and ensures that you are devoting adequate time to your craft.

Things will try to distract you from your creative time. Don’t let them. Your emotional well-being will suffer. As artists, we have to create, or else our spirits become impoverished.

Our daily routines are the foundation of our lives. They determine our productivity levels and overall progress towards our goals. The more you are able to adhere to a pre-determined weekly schedule of art-making, the faster you will progress and the happier you will be.
